You really do get to make the most of the variety-packed offer available in the Hohe Tauern National Park with the National Park Summer Card. As a guest staying in the Birkenhof, you receive this free of charge, for the duration of your stay. It can also be redeemed on the day you arrive and the day you are due to depart. The Summer Card is available every year from 01 May to 31 October.
For those of you who would like to find out more about nature, the Summer Card also provides an extensive Ranger Programme, with twenty guided hikes per week in which you can participate free of charge. Enjoy a "Geocaching tour in the valley of the emeralds" or an excursion through "Rauriser Urwald" or maybe even a "summit meeting" in the area of the easy three-thousand metre mountains.

The most famous Alpine road leads you into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park to the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner (3,798m) and its glacier, the Pasterze. A natural and driving experience of a special kind awaits you on 48 kilometres of high alpine road with 36 hairpin bends and a climb up to 2,504 metres! The goal of the ascent is the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs Höhe at the foot of the Großglockner. From here you have the best view of the summit and the Pasterze.

This Alpine road is an important pass road from Salzburg to Tyrol. It connects the village centre of Wald with Königsleiten. In the west of the Pinzgau, in Krimml, you can explore the alpine landscape between the Salzburgerland and the Zillertal in Tyrol. The most beautiful pass road is from May to the end of October.
Directly on this mountain road are the WasserWelten Krimml, the Krimml waterfalls can be admired from afar with a short stop.

Rauriser Hochalmbahn, a 6-seater cable car takes you to our 'family mountain', the Hochalm, at 1780m in just a few minutes. The bird of prey centre is right at the Hochalmhütte. The otherwise shy owls and birds of prey here can be experienced up close. The behaviour and way these, in part endangered animals, is explained in a session lasting approx. 40 minutes.

Excursion experience with mountains, lakes and glaciers! The cable car takes you into the impressive natural surroundings in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park at over 2300 m. Weißsee Glacier World is a popular excursion destination for walkers, hikers, mountain pros and climbers.

Rest and relaxation for all the family can be found in the heated outdoor pool (24 °C). Along with the swimmers and non-swimmers pools, there is a splash area, a play area, a 51m water slide and table tennis table.

A game of golf for all the family. The mountain and plant realm in all its beauty tempts you to see nature from a different aspect -making hiking a joy. A total of 11 stations have been set up along the 6 km hiking path, at the loveliest places. New and impressive 'mountain golf courses' (similar to mini golf courses) have been set up using old agricultural equipment. Clubs also make for excellent hiking poles. Right on the Großglockner road, before the toll area, is an area spanning approx. 15 hectares which has more than 200 animals, indigenous to Alpine areas. Paths are suitable for prams and wheelchairs. There is a 20,000 m² adventure area for children and entry is free.

Kitzlochklamm is certainly the loveliest and most impressive gorge in our region. The numerous little waterfalls, impressive bridges and little idyllic bays make the gorge a very special natural monument. Every Tuesday in July and August there is a torchlit hike with music (surcharge payable).

Free with the Summer Card
After the heyday of Rauris gold mining in the 15th/16th century, today the gold panning site offers an adventure area with inflow area, panning pond, log cabin, children's play area and outdoor barbecue. Included in the entry fee: hire equipment (gold panning bowl and shovel).

Panning for gold at 1480 m – gold panning pan and phials are available for the gold you find. And you are definitely guaranteed to make a find, as long as you pay heed to the practical advice provided by professional gold panners. Any Tauern gold you find can of course be taken away with you. The altitude road takes you into one of the loveliest valley heads in Europe. The Hohe Tauern National Park unfolds here in its most splendid variety. Hiking and panning for gold are just two of the extensive activities available in this part of Raurisertal. The Knappenwanderweg rekindles the nostalgia of gold prospecting romance.

The Tälerbus takes you to Golehenalm and Palfneralm, in Seidlwinkltal, which is closed off to regular traffic. Numerous hiking options are available for you there, for instance to Rauriser Tauernhaus, the Litzlhofalm or to the Großglockner High Alpine Road and the Hochtor.
